Bridging Medical Training & Human Connection
Pulse and Presence is a student-led initiative at Brown University that bridges the gap between medical education and community-based preventive care. Our mission is built on three essential pillars: Preventive Care, Humanity, and Presence. We believe that true health advocacy requires both the 'pulse' of clinical metrics and the 'presence' of genuine empathy. We collaborate with local Providence partners to provide accessible screenings and health literacy workshops. By integrating medical training with compassionate outreach, we create clinical bridges to follow-up care, ensuring that healthcare reach extends to everyone in our community with dignity.
Our Core Health Screening Activities
Blood Pressure Tracking
We conduct regular blood pressure monitoring to identify early signs of hypertension and provide residents with actionable insights into their cardiovascular health.
SpO2 & Pulse Monitoring
Non-invasive screening of blood oxygen saturation and heart rate to detect potential respiratory or circulatory issues during community site visits.
Vision Screenings
Basic visual acuity checks that identify common impairments, helping us guide community members toward professional optometric care when needed.
*Trained student volunteers follow evidence-based protocols to create a clinical bridge for follow-up care.*
