Pulse & Presence
Pulse & Presence is a student-led preventive health initiative at Brown University. We bridge the gap between medical education and community-based care through free screenings and health literacy workshops across Providence.
Our Mission
Pulse & Presence is dedicated to bridging the vital gap between medical education and community-based preventive care. Our long-term vision focuses on fostering humanity and presence in every interaction, ensuring the community doesn't just know their numbers, but feels seen and supported.
- Community Partnerships: Collaborating with local Providence leaders to bring screenings where they are needed most.
- Know Your Numbers: Empowering individuals with clinical metrics like BP, SpO2, and vision insights.
- Educational Seminars: Demystifying preventive health through student-led workshops and dialogue.
- Research Collaboration: Working with academic partners to evaluate community health needs and clinical outcomes.
Our Story
Pulse & Presence began with a simple observation by a group of Brown University students: while our academic training was rigorous, there was a missing bridge to our neighbors in the Providence community. We saw an opportunity to bring preventive health screenings directly to local gathering spaces, moving beyond the classroom to offer care where it’s needed most.
What started as a shared vision between students has grown into a dedicated initiative that values clinical accuracy, the 'Pulse', just as much as the human warmth of 'Presence.' By showing up with open ears and consistent outreach, we are building a clinical bridge that connects metrics with genuine empathy, ensuring healthcare reach extends to everyone with dignity.
